Volunteer

The strength of a homeowner association lies in the effective volunteer efforts of its members. The committees in our neighborhood are an important part of the workings of our HOA and they are the backbone of the neighborhood, making things happen.

We also have some homeowners that volunteer a little of their time which helps out tremendously.  We had one homeowner shovel snow off the kiosk and another picked up trash at the entrance.  Any kind of help is greatly appreciated and the Landings at Cedar Cove desperately needs your help.

What are some general ways I can help?

  • Do you have a skill that would be of benefit to others in the Landings?
  • Would you like to volunteer your time, energy, and talents to assist with one of the many committees here in the Landings?
  • Do you have a project to suggest for the Landings?
  • Do you have to complete community service for a school project?
  • Would you be available to assist a neighbor in need?
  • Are you willing to offer professional expertise when needed?
  • Are you willing to help with community projects?

The list goes on and on.  Simply stated, the Landings needs you.

If you answered yes to any of the above items, or if you simply want to become involved in making the Landings more than just a group of homes, please check back here often to offer help and assistance.  Your help is appreciated with community projects large and small.

If you are interested in helping your community, please take a moment to contact us.  We look forward to hearing from you!

Present Volunteer Needs

  • Help identify fallen trees on the trail or unhealthy trees in the common area.
  • Help pick up trash in the community (at the entrance, trail, playground, and in front of our community down Long Lane, etc.).  Volunteer to “adopt a small section” of these areas to help keep our community looking great.
  • Write articles for the newsletters and website.
  • Water plants at the entrance.
  • Shovel snow off the kiosk area.
  • Help with social activities.
  • Unclog culverts on the trail.
  • Blow off trail when needed.
  • Blow off kiosk and sidewalk area around it.

The Landings wants to thank the following volunteers for helping in our community.  If we have missed someone, please let us know so we can add them to the list.

Do you care about how your neighborhood looks? Some say picking up trash in your neighborhood isn’t worth it because there are trash cans around for people to use, but the trash still ends up on our streets and common areas. If you care about your community, pick up the trash that you see during your morning or evening walk and throw it in a trash can.

Just as piece by piece, litter adds up and makes our community unsafe and unhealthy, so too can we build a healthy, trash-free Cedar Cove community with each individual action. Only by working together will we see a change, and only by working together can we make a difference.

Remember, being involved, participating, and contributing are important factors in making a difference and helping our community. By everyone doing their part it will help protect, preserve, and enhance community assets, and property values in the Landings.

8/25/18- The Grace family removed a fallen tree on the common area near the playground.

8/18/18- Thomas Grace removed fallen tree from trail.

8/4/18- We had a tremendous amount of graffiti in our playground that was on the equipment, benches, fences, picnic tables, etc. and it was quite an eyesore. During the Landings Graffiti Removal Day residents tackled the problem and hopefully this is the last of it. Thank you Michelle Seelinger and Edward Lipnickas for allowing us to use your electricity, water, hoses, and extension cords which helped tremendously. Special thanks goes to Alan Wirth, Joan Holland, Linda Johnson, Don Baker, and the Grace family for cleaning up our playground and keeping our community looking nice.

7/28/18- Special thanks go to the following for all their wonderful help in sprucing up our neighborhood: David deJetley, Don Baker, and the Grace Family. Without their help we would not be able to enjoy our common areas that we all use and appreciate. We also want to thank Pat and Jonelle Mann for allowing us to use their water for the power washer. This periodic upkeep helps maintain our common areas and protects, preserves, and enhances community assets, and property values in the Landings.

6/16/18- Thomas and Kevin Grace cut down a branch that was over the kiosk and some trees that were hanging over the trail.

5/25/18- Kris Lewis cleared away some trees that were blocking the trail. Thank you, Kris! The strength of a homeowner association lies in the effective volunteer efforts of its members. Volunteering makes a big difference in our community and it is greatly appreciated.

3/29/18, 4/23/18, 4/28/18, 5/29/18, 7/28/18, 8/2/18, 8/16/18, 10/18/18, 10/29/18, 11/11/18, and 11/26/18- Laura Grace, Linda Johnson, Don Baker, and Thomas Grace cleaned out the culverts and several clogged areas in the drainage ditch along the trail.

                                                                        2017

6/3/17-  We want to thank the following people for all their hard work in helping to keep our community looking great during the Annual Landings Community Clean Up:  Don Baker, Kevin Butler, and the Grace Family.  They power washed the kiosk, stone walls, curb, and concrete area, scrubbed the Landings sign, removed trash, debris, and branches along the trail, cleaned out the culvert ditch area, picked up trash down Long Lane, and spruced up the playground.

                                                                         2016

Continued maintenance was done throughout the year on the common area to help keep the Landings looking nice. The playground was sprayed for weeds, a tree was removed from a neighbor’s yard that fell from the common ground, the culverts along the trail were unclogged, the kiosk, stone walls, and concrete area was power washed, the Landings sign was scrubbed, debris was blown off the trail, and trash and fallen trees were removed along the trail. All of this was done by volunteers that live in the Landings. Thank you for all your hard work!

2015

5/30/15- Some necessary maintenance was done today in the Landings by Kevin Butler, Michael Plyler, and the Grace Family.  They cleaned the Landings sign and kiosk, unclogged one of the ditches for proper drainage, picked up trash on the trail and down Long Lane, and blew off debris from the trail.

2014

5/17/14- Quite a lot was accomplished during the Annual Community Clean Up Day:  scrubbed entrance sign, power washed kiosk, cleaned out culverts, blew off trail, removed old playground fence and installed new one, cleaned up playground, picked up trash on trail and down Long Lane.  Special thanks to the following people for helping to keep the Landings maintenance costs down:  Dave Borman, Deryk Lambert, Plyler Family, Butler Family, and the Grace Family.

9/20/14 - 11/12/14- This community project to rebuild the bridge/deck end up being a much bigger project than any of us had originally anticipated.  Like many projects once you get into the details of the work the plans change.  We had 18 different volunteers who contributed from just a few hours to many days accumulating about 300 man-hours of effort.  We spent $2.2K on materials for the bridge and we probably saved the community at least $8K if we had contracted out the work.

We know many folks could not necessarily contribute but stopped by and offered friendly support and one even brought lunch.  Community activities are a great way to meet one’s neighbors as well as unite the community for a common purpose.  So when the next time you see one these people please thank them for their efforts.

Don Baker, Dave Borman, Kevin Butler, David & Nakao deJetley, Thomas & Laura Grace, Bernie Goldsborough, Doug Hays, Linda Johnson, Chuck Kohls, Ken Lauderdale, Jonelle Mann, Patrick Mann, Jon McEllroy, Michael Plyler, and Dave & Cathy Robinson.

If don’t know any of these people then I would say you missed out on a great opportunity to meet some nice folks who are trying to help the community.  Maybe on the next community project . . .

 2013

How They Helped

Jacob Kronberger- He's here!  He's there!  He's everywhere -- always ready to help and add new ideas. Our U.S. flag at the entrance desperately needed attention and Jake sewed it up and it looks great!  Jake also replaced a board on the playground equipment and adjusted the height of the swings.  The culvert on the trail constantly needs attention because it gets clogged up all the time.  Jake cleaned out the culvert so the water would not wash out the trail.

Thomas Grace- He helped a neighbor in need by doing some yard work (cut their grass, weed wacked, edged, and blew off debris).  The culvert on the trail got clogged up again so Thomas cleaned it out.  During the Spring Clean Up Thomas cut branches and hauled debris from around the entrance, down Long Lane, and from the trail. He also helped someone in the community remove and install new garage window inserts.

Cathy Robinson- Our “Neighborhood Garden Lady” helped a neighbor in need by watering their plants and she also helped Thomas rake up cut grass and bagged it up for garbage collection.

Chris Wilson- He likes to lend a hand and his grill during our social activities.  Chris especially enjoys grilling and we get to reap the benefits from his expertize.

Deryk Lambert- He likes to lend a hand during our social activities as well.  Deryk helped Chris with the grilling during the BBQ.

Michael Plyler- He got our wonderful new community website up and running.  Michael is responsible for creating our website and designing it.

Chris Rodkey-
He takes time out of his busy day to water the plants at the entrance.

Laura Grace- She does our Landings newsletters and helped with our community website by creating the information content.  During the Spring Clean Up Laura scrubbed the entrance sign and picked up trash and debris along the trail, common areas, and down Long Lane. She also cleaned out those pesky culverts on the trail that keep getting clogged up.

Michael Smolek- He helped with the Spring Clean Up which shows how much he cares about our community.  Michael cut branches and hauled debris from around the entrance and down Long Lane.

John Wells- He is the Chairperson for the Community Maintenance Committee, but that isn’t all he does for the Landings.  During the Spring Clean Up John cut branches and hauled debris from around the entrance, down Long Lane, and from the trail.
